Biochemical Technology R&D Center, approved by the National Development and Reform Commission, jointly funded by BBCA Group, Jiangnan University, Tianjin University, and the Plasma Institute of Chinese Academy of Science,which is a state-level fermentation technology engineering research center. The primary function of Engineering Centre is to carry out the research of strain technologies, fermentation technologies, extraction &separation technologies, environmental protection processing technologies, etc. The center undertakes the Supporting Program of the “Eleventh Five-year Plan”for Sci & Tech Research,Tackling Program of the “Twelfth Five-year Plan”for Sci & Tech Research ,863 Program, 973 Program and a number of other key scientific and technological upgrading projects. Its key technology of making ethanol from straw and the production of fuel ethanol by liquid fermentation of sucrose slag has been listed as the national science and technology support program of the Ministry of Science and Technology.
The center has a number of new projects in the pipeline for corn, soybeans, wheat, sugar cane as well as the value-added processing of other agricultural products. Other techonogies under development include the production of starch and starch sugar (including glucose, maltodextrin and fructose syrup), organic acids (citric acid, L-lactic acid and L-malic acid), amino acids (lysine, threonine, tryptophan, alanine among others), vitamins (VC, VH, VE， VB5，VB6 and VB9), alcohol products (ethanol, xylitol, sorbitol and butanol),biological materials (polylactic acid and PBS) and pharmaceutical intermediates.
The center concentrates on intellectual property protection and personnel training, it has obtained more than 450 patents and more than 170 major invention patents.Besides,the center has compiled the 12 articles of National Standard and 2 monographs,and a lot integrated research specialists who has the strong ability of R&D with the rich experiences on engineering design and production practice.
